A brave new world by aldous huxley

Their class names "Alphas Betas Gammas Deltas and Epsilons" are the first five letters of the Greek alphabet. Ironically the Greek way of life has close similarities to the "Brave new world", where society was a strong class-structure.
In "A Brave new world" Aldous Huxley has changed the religion and traditions of the society. An example of this is through nursery rhymes. Nursery rhymes can be recognised as part of our inheritance and underline the nature of our tradition. The well known nursery rhyme "But when the boys came out to play, Gorgy Porgy ran away", has been changed to fit the standards of "A Brave new world" and is "Boys at one with girls gives peace, Orgy Porgy gives release." This new nursery rhyme would not be accepted in today's society and would have been seen as outrageous to Aldous Huxley's generation. This emphasises Huxley's negative attitude towards the people of the future by demonstrating the shocking traditions held by their society.
Huxley has reversed the standards of other traditions in "A Brave new world" such as vocabulary of the people and the "sayings" that they use. The "sayings" used in today's society such as "Better safe then sorry", and "Look before you leap", are designed to teach children important lessons on life. For example if a child crosses a road it is better if they are safe and wait for cars to pass rather then be careless and risk their lives. In Huxley's shocking world the people use different "sayings". These include "A gram is better then a dam", and "Ending is better then mending". The first, is encouraging children to take drugs (a gram of soma), and the second is encouraging children to by new clothing or items instead of getting old ones fixed, which shows their desire to consume. Both of these "sayings" clash with the standards of today's society because no parent's wants their child to do drugs and extreme consummation is considered a bad thing.
