Abortion rights

After the hearing in 1973 in the Supreme Court regarding abortion rights, two sides of the issue developed - pro-choice and pro-life. For the most part, the two distinct groups hardly agree on anything. Pro-choice genuinely believes that the woman has the right to her body. Thus, she has the right to decide weather she wishes to keep the baby growing inside her or abort her pregnancy. This stands for the woman only, the law or the state have no right to interfere. On the other hand, protestors would fight back with the statement " but you"re murdering a human life." As a rebuttal, a pro-choicer would say "When is a fetus actually a human life?" A partisan might back this up with the statement that the fetus is never actually a human being because it relies on their mother's body to live. In a sense, the baby is given life through the carrier's life. Another statement one might argue with would be that "we raise farm animals to be slaughtered; destroy forests; pollute rivers and lakes until no fish can live there; kill deer and elk for sport; and render a species extinct every day" (Sagan 4). However, he continues with the subtle statement that murder only applies to human life, and therefore this argument could be countered simply by saying "but those are merely vegetables and beasts." Furthermore, a pro-choicer would argue that all methods of abortion, medically (medications, etc.) or surgically, are entirely safe. Studies show that there are hardly any complications and if some do arise, most are minor. On the other hand, there are complications with any medical process and by undergoing an operation, you are putting your health at risk.
There are many complications that one could encounter when undergoing an abortion, though most are not very severe. When using medications for abortion (i.e. RU-486, a pill), one could experience heavy or prolonged bleeding and would eventually have to receive a suction aspiration and if the bleeding is worse, one may have to be hospitalized and receive a blood transfusion.
