Mandatory Advisor Sessions

It is important for a student to go see an advisor because you might over load yourself or take classes that do not pertain to your degree plan. Regardless of the degree you are seeking, I believe that everybody should see an advisor for an accurate and efficient plan. Angelo State University should require all of its students to see an advisor before they are allowed to register. .
A mandatory requirement to see an advisor can be very beneficial to the student. One could get help balancing one's class load. Knowing how many hours that you are going to be allowed to take is very important, and an advisor knows which classes are difficult and which ones should be taken together. Without that kind of knowledge you might end up with all difficult classes, and then find out that you can't handle the course load and drop out of many of the classes or end up failing the classes. If you don't see an advisor and you register online you may register for too many classes or take classes that you do not need. In my personal experience, it has been advantageous to see an advisor, because for my first semester I had chosen classes that were much too difficult and my advisor helped me balance my course load. Without the advisor I would have taken those classes and could have been discouraged to the point of dropping out of college altogether. It is good to know what classes you are getting into and with the help of an advisor they can make that possible. .
Advisors can also help you manage your class hours around your work if need be. A lot of people have to work in order to stay in college and the advisors are aware of that, and are trained to help any student that needs to form a schedule around their employment. Even if you are working full time and have very extra time to devote to school, you need to be advised as to the classes as you can handle. They know what type of classes you can handle and what classes won't work well together so that you don't get yourself in a bind.
