Truth


Polonius is searching for Truth as well, but his own pride and self-indulgence allowed him to misread Truth's footsteps and only find a lie. Laertes searches for the truth behind his father's death and many other character's in Hamlet are found in search of Truth and Revelation.
             Hamlet opens quickly with the search for Truth and Revelation by the minor characters Barnardo and Francisco. Their initial lines are the basis for the whole plot. Hamlet Barnardo: Who's there? 1 .

             Horatio soon enters the play and attempts to reveal the identity of the ghost and its intentions. Horatio's search for intentions was a way to find the truth behind the ghost. Intentions play a powerful role in life and the comprehension of intentions clear the way for reasonable reactions and actions. Horatio's observance of the resemblance to the dead King of Denmark led to the decision to call Hamlet and let him try to understand the reason for the ghosts appearance. Horatio incomprehension of what was before him forced him to bring in Hamlet who could decipher the true meaning of the occurrences and call forth Revelation.
             Before Hamlet's encounter with the ghost, Hamlet was hiding behind a veil of mourning and despair. Hamlet's mourning and attire of black did not fit into Claudius" view of what should be exemplified in the Court. Hamlet Claudius: We pray you, throw to earth 104 .
             I.ii This unprevailing woe; and think of us .
             As of a father: for let the world take note.
             You are the most immediate to our throne. 2.
             .
             Claudius, the new King, was not interested in the true side of things being revealed in public; he wanted a vision of contentment. Claudius" orchestration of the original King's death was a valid reason for Claudius" dislike of Hamlet's visible mourning.
