The children are actually mingling and becoming more sexual. The children start off playing games like spin-the-bottle in the sixth grade, but by the seventh grade, they are getting more sexual. Parties are the usual venue for sexual activity, especially oral sex. Oral sex has become an activity choice for girls because they can maintain their virginity, and they can't get pregnant (Carpenter & Elizabeth, 2003). But what they don't know is that they can still get infected with a sexually transmitted disease. Another reason teens tend to have more oral sex is because it seems to have less emotional involvement. .
Boys" and girls" attitudes toward sex are very different. Boys tend to have sex because their friends are doing it. Thirty-three percent of teen boys say they feel pressure to have sex (Carpenter & Elizabeth, 2003). They don't want to be the ones left out when "the guys" are talking about their sexual experiences. And when the boys actually have intercourse, they want to get as many partners as possible so that they can be called a player. But on the other hand, it is much different for girls. A lot of girls start to have sex because they get pressured from their boyfriends, who are most likely to be older. The girls don't want to disappoint their boyfriends, and they want to keep him around, so they will have sex even if they don't want to, and soon after, they will regret it. Twenty-three percent of teen girls reported that they feel pressure to have sex (Carpenter & Elizabeth, 2003). While most boys seem to spend time thinking about how to have sex, girls think mostly about whether or not to have sex, and unlike boys, they often wish they had not done it. Unlike boys, who are considered players for having multiple sex partners, if a girl were having sex with a lot of people, she would be considered a slut. And those characteristics tend to hurt the images of these young people, and they lower their self-esteem.
