Blackjack

Before the war he was a blackjack dealer in Chicago (Scanre 349). It was not until around 1915 that blackjack made its first appearance in the major casinos around the country.
The game of blackjack is played with one dealer, who is also the bank that pays out to the winners. There is then up to as many as seven players that play against the dealers hand. The table is set up like a half circle, so the dealer stands facing the players and the bank of money and chips are directly under him. Underneath the table on the left of the dealer is a chip box. This is used for the dealer to collect the tips in the he receives from the players. To the left of the dealer is the shoe. This is a case that holds the cards to be dealt to the players. A standard shoe contains six decks of cards all shuffled together. Before the stack of cards is put into the shoe it is cut by a cut card, this tells the dealer when to stop and change the shoe, normally about a deck and a half to two decks is left over. To the right of the dealer on the table is a holder that holds the previously used cards in the hand before, these cards are kept here until the shoe is out of cards and needs a new set of decks. Closer to the dealer is a drop box. This is where cash is placed after changing it into chips for the player. Also in most casinos, to the right of the dealer on the floor next to him is a card shuffler. This is an automatic shuffling machine that shuffles all six decks that are used at one time during a round of blackjack. Most casinos use these shuffling machines to keep the game moving faster and so the dealer can deal more hands and make the casino more money. However, some casinos still resort to hand shuffling all six decks. Since the odds are always with the house over time it will win more money dealing more hands. This is so there is less shuffling and it also makes it harder for people to cheat and count cards.
