As a matter of regular practice I would never invade a person's privacy or infringe upon his/her rights. The biggest reason that I behave this way is the possible repercussions that may arise. Being a "Gladys" is embarrassing and eliminates anyone's trust in you. I have my own life to worry about, my own obstacles to overcome and my own goals to achieve.
3. Do you agree with Glaucon? Do human beings, for that most part, adhere to moral codes involuntarily, only because of the fear of getting caught and paying consequences?.
I do agree with Glaucon. We (human race) are the most vain and selfish creatures on earth. We put on a front in so many instances. A good example of this is when someone sneezes we say "Gods bless you." I once asked the most intelligent person that I know, why we do this. He did not have an answer. Maybe we say this because when we sneeze our heart stops or maybe this is a myth. The point is do we really mean those words or have we become so accustomed to this practice that we do not even know what the words mean? Are these just empty words and we just say because it is the right thing to do? When does saying the right thing become so wrong?.
If a woman asks "Honey, do I look fat in this dress?", you know the answer you are going to say without even looking at her. The answer is always "No," even though her dress is a size six and she has not seen a six in 20 years. When is it okay to lie? We are afraid of the consequences if we tell the truth.
I have heard over and over the phrase "Money is the root to all evil," yet I have never met anyone who would refuse money. If one became invisible had access to endless amounts of cash, would they take it? There is not a person that I know that would not go into a bank if they were invissible and take money if they knew they would never get caught. We are hypocrites.
Another thought that comes to mind and may be considered gross is: Why do we say how disgusting it is to pick your nose? We mock and stare when someone does it in public but the fact of the matter is we all do it.
