             ruined. He felt that the best thing to do would be to hide it from every one, especially since he knew that Hester would never tell any one who the partner had been. Dimmesdale thought that his idea would be fine and that he could live the rest of his life hiding his secret; he quickly found out that he couldn't though. Guilt quickly became a factor in Dimmesdale's downward spiral (Gross 82). He quickly found out that what he had planned to do became more difficult than he could have ever imagined. It was very difficult for him because he knew the people of the town trusted him. They think that a man of the church would never have any thing to do with an affair. The people of the town just thought that Dimmesdale was very upset because such a scandal had taken place in his church. This hurt Dimmesdale because he knew that the people of the town trusted him and he had let them down.
             Dimmesdale had to prepare him self because he knew that he would .
             eventually reveal him self, he just wasn't sure when he would be able to bring him self to do it. He had to become strong on the inside and on the outside because of the ridicule he was going to get from the people of the town. He had to become prepared for the dark times that lay ahead of him. Dimmesdale knew that it would be hard times, and he needed to prepare him self for his spiritual growth and his spiritual salvation (Male 55-56).
             After preparation Dimmesdale needed to find out how the people felt about what he had done. Some times he would try and talk to the people but he was not able to speak a word to them because he would freeze up in fear. Then he started to become a little more confident and was able to talk to the people of the town and see how they felt they felt about the whole ordeal. This brings Dimmesdale to his next stage in his spiritual growth; communication.
             Dimmesdale had prepared him self in many ways but was still unprepared in many other ways.
