To Bomb or Not to Bomb

After reading the different excerpts in our packet I believe I can safely make the argument that dropping the atomic bomb was a good decision. The dropping of the bomb has many underlying factors that support that it was a good decision and many that support that it was a bad decision. The first factor that led me to believe that it was a good decision was that Americans believed that the Japanese would never have surrendered. If the bomb had not been dropped many American lives would have been lost in an invasion into Japan. Another reason was that the bomb itself to make required a lot of time and money. 200 million dollars is a big investment into something that we were not going to use. We wanted to justify all this money and time by using what we had carefully created. Also the Japanese were cruel towards the American soldiers of war and it was time to teach them a lesson. And the last reason was that we wanted to show our military supremacy to the USSR. The USSR was currently trying to build the same weapon and upon completing ours first we wanted them to know what they would be going up against.
             Or Not To Bomb.
After reading the different excerpts in our packet I believe I can safely make the argument that dropping the atomic bomb was a bad decision. The dropping of the bomb has many underlying factors that support that it was a good decision and many that support that it was a bad decision. The first factor that led me to believe that it was a bad decision was that many innocent lives were killed. The landscape was completely destroyed and would take decades to rebuild. All that time and money Japan would spend rebuilding Hiroshima and Nagasaki is overwhelming. Innocent women and children were killed instantly by these 2 bombs being dropped. Another reason is was it completely necessary to drop the bomb rather then orchestrate an invasion on the mainland? I don't think it was, our military was far more superior and could have neutralized the situation without having such a big destruction and slaughtering of innocent people.
