Interview w/ a lawyer.

He, initially, didn't want to be in the courtroom, but when the job offer came, he had no choice to accept it and the duties that come along with it.   He describes this job experience as "amazing" and "fast-paced."   He further states, " I love this job!    Lots of laws to look up  and lots of cases to go over, I love doing work.  Sometimes, there are so many cases that you can't prepare for it ahead of time.most of the cases I get deal with traffic violations, and theft. You come in contact with different types of people, and learn new things everyday.".
Mr. Gessesse Teferi is an Assistant State's Attorney; he prosecutes cases for the state, cases such as traffic violation cases, assault cases, theft   (under $500) cases, property damage cases (under and over $500), cases, gun cases, domestic violence, and car theft cases.   He added that most of the cases that are brought to them , mostly comprise of car theft cases.   Upon inquiry, Mr. Teferi further explained that they are not assigned cases, instead, they are assigned courtrooms.   The lawyers prepare and brief  the cases, and the secretary takes all the cases from them and files the cases according to the hearing dates.   As each lawyer is assigned to a courtroom,  they are given  the stacks of cases for the particular courtroom they are assigned.   As a result, sometimes, they  have little time to go over a case before the case is  brought before the judge.   Mr. Teferi stated that they are only assigned cases if they request to be assigned to that case, but  there has to be a  written request.   .
Mr. Teferi started at an entry-level postition, which is his current level.   He explains that the next level is the Juvenile subdivision of the District division; after that is the Circuit division, which has five subdivisions:   Narcotics, Major crimes, Homicide, Economic crimes, and Sex crimes.   Although, he loves his job and plans to move up the ladder, he's still interested in human and civil rights and wants to be involved in that somewhere down the road.
