Madrid


            The famous capital of Spain since 1562, more commonly known, as Madrid is a city filled with amazing sights. From it's monuments, museums, cafés, and nightclubs, this is a warm and lively city. Madrid id located in the center if the Iberian Peninsula, because of its location as well as its high altitude it is known to have warm and dry summers while maintained fairly cool winters.
             Madrid has several monuments dating back to as early as the 16th century and some dating as late as the 19th century. With over forty different monuments to choose from, Madrid is covered with various pieces of history. Madrid is also covered with museums. Over thirty line the streets of Madrid, full of history and art. One of the most famous of these museums is the Prado, it has one of the most important painting collections worldwide. It includes pieces from Goya, Velazquez, El Greco, Zurbaran, and Murillo. Other museums include the Bullfighting Museum, the Army Museum, the Africa Museum, and the Romantic Museum. .
             Spain's capitol also is widely known for its celebrations and festivals. The celebration of New Years is an interesting one. Many people gather together at Puerta del Sol as the clock strikes down to midnight, everybody gathered tries to eat twelve grapes, which is believed to bring good luck. Another world renown one is the Fiesta de San Isidro, which takes place on May 15th. It celebrates Madrid's patrons and includes several concerts, and public performances, as well as the best bullfights of the year. .
             As well as the rest of Spain, Madrid also has an amazing taste for food. Madrid produces many dishes including lamb and veal but because of its location it is better known as the paradise for fish lovers. It has the second largest import of fish and it provides some of the best quality and diverse types of fish within the world. Along with the delicious fish are also the fine wines and to die for desserts, which include Roscos de Santo.
