The government is so lenient to the people who are filing for divorce, that's why divorce is so common in our society. My system would be different and tougher if I had a chance to change the law. Most of our problems could be resolved if couples are willing to work on their shortcomings and differences, then maybe there would be no divorces in this country. If we compare this country to other countries where divorce is not allowed, our country has much lower numbers of children that are living with both original parents. The easy access of divorce in our country results in a higher rate of broken homes. The media, our environment, and our culture influence the decisions, thoughts, and feelings that could result in poor judgment in us and to the future of our children. .
My perception toward divorce is due to my own experience. Before I met my husband, he was a divorced man with four children from his previous marriage. When we got married, his two younger daughters were only seven and five years old. During that time, my husband was still fighting for a custody battle. I watched the whole process where my husbands" children suffered the conflict between their parents. Watching my step kids suffering through that was one the saddest moments I've ever experienced. The children were torn apart between two parents competing in a custody battle. My step kids had to make adjustments with their school, friends, and their environment because of the change of their status. My experience gave me structure in life that changed my outlook and belief that my children will not go through the same situation that my step kids had to experience. As parents, we have responsibility to correct the system in our society. Banning divorces in this country could minimize the rate of broken homes, unless there's a valid reason for getting a divorce, such as family abandonment, alcoholism, and abusive relationships.
