Atticus


            How does he seek to instill conscience in them?.
             The Novel TKAMB written by Harper Lee and is set in Maycomb county during the 1930's a time of great unrest due to the Economic Depression.Macomb is said to be "a tired old town" and people "had nowhere to go" cleary reflecting the static and laid back style of life in Maycomb.The society in general had "nothing to do" and nowhere to go so they resorted to gossip as a means of entertainment.The evils of gossip are clearly seen in the current staye of Arthur Radley.
             However one of the few extraordinary and unusual characaters in Maycomb who stand out and above the rest is Atticus Finch.The father to two promising children Jem and Scout.In the 1st Chapter when Scout refers to her father she uses his first name "Atticus" undoubtedly showing the closeness and the mutual understanding between Atticus and the children.Atticus is a man of morals and principles and these are reflected in the way he interacts with his children.He allows them to call him by his first name in order to promote the children to view him and him to view his children in equal terms.He is a man of justices and equality and has no age discrimination whatsoever.His children are like his best friends.
             Atticus in regard to his parenting style is quite different,perhaps even more modern and broadminded in his ways.Atticus" style is something to be admired and is greatly contrast with some of the other parent in the book.Looking at Boo Radleys father,Boo Radleys father treated Boo like a toy and a slave with no respect towards his sons feelings,Bob Ewell are examples of bad parenting styles where in their lack of respect and openness towards their children are relected in the way they interact at school "Aint no good - .Atticus listens to the childrens point of view on things and acts like a frined and confidant towards them especcialy Scout who is in a state of confusion and Jem who is in a state of decision making.
