Legalizing Marijuana

The debate of legalizing marijuana or not has been a hot topic of discussion for years now. A lot of people object to legalizing marijuana but their reasons are not all that logical most of the time. After checking up on the history, effects, and statistics of marijuana users, I diffidently think that marijuana should become legal. Lets not forget, It is an herb growing from the ground naturally.
Marijuana is 100% natural and comes from the earth. Marijuana, which comes from hemp plants was very popular even back around the 1620's in the country. If a farmer did not have hemp growing in their fields, they were fined because of its many uses and invaluableness of hemp. It produced paper, clothing, rope, and was used marijuana was used to treat almost every ailment. The first president of the United States, George Washington, was an early hemp farmer. He kept notes in a journal about the quality of it and he wrote that he tried to make sure the female plants would become saturated with resin, which is a sign that he smoked marijuana.
If marijuana was made legal, it could be used as a very useful drug to help or cure ailments or diseases. For example, someone with anorexia could use marijuana to make their appetite come back and almost force them to eat. The same can be said for someone suffering through chemotherapy. Medical marijuana is just too hard for people in need of it to obtain it because it is considered an illegal drug. Only 8 people were allowed to be prescribed marijuana medically to treat an illness, disorder, or disease. How do you think the people with massive migraines or depression felt when they got denied over and over again of their treatment?.
Marijuana has been a wide spread drug across our country since mainly the late 60's and lately even more people are using it. According to the 2001 National Household Survey on Drug Abuse, in 2001, over 83,272,000 people have used marijuana at least once in their life.
