My Grandmother's Life

My grandmother's name is Virginia Ross. When I was still in my childhood years, I spent most of my time living with her because my mother was always working at least two jobs. My grandmother insisted that I stay with her because she felt that I didn't need to be at home alone while my mother was working. She would always tell my mom, "You know dat boy ain't got no business being in that house while you at work." Even though my mom thought I was responsible enough to be at home until nine or ten o"clock by myself, my grandmother always had the final say. .
I can remember when I was in third grade how my grandmother took me to school everyday. She wasn't physically well enough to be able to drive me, so she would always ride the CTA bus with me to school. Even when the weather was below zero, she was always out there on the bus stop with me. I contended that she didn't have to take me, mostly because of her health problems, but she would have none of that. One day while waiting for the bus, my grandma started having trouble breathing. I told her that I was old enough to go to school by myself and that she should go back in the house. "I"m okay, just havin a lil" shortness of breath" she said. "It's some crazy folks out here, and I ain't gonna let you wait out here in this cold by yoself, no tellin what could happen.".
Although my grandmother is one of the nicest people you could ever meet, she could be very unpleasant if pushed. One of the most vivid memories I have of her is when we were in a grocery store. I was perusing the aisles, looking at any and everything that caught my eye. After a few minutes, one of the clerks at the store left his register, and began following me around the store. My grandmother caught notice of him. She asked the man in a stern voice, "Why you following my baby around here like he gettin" ready to steal somethin"?" Before he could even respond, my grandma said "He ain't no thief.
