Building America

August 13, 1680 a concerted revolt against Spanish military and religious oppression, "when dawn came more than 2,500 Indians fell upon us in the villa, fortifying and entrenching themselves in all its houses and at the entrances of all the streets, and cutting off our water they burned the holy temple [The Indians were] so dexterous and so bold that they came to set fire to the doors of the fortified tower of Nuestra Senora de las Casas Reales" (Heath Otermin, pg
92). The successful uprising of that summer gave hope to many suppressed Native Americans. Pueblos shaped the future of rebellion in respects to preserving their human rights and culture. America has many untold and unforeseen flaws that show how this country's real reputation should be taught. .
On a different perspective, in the early nineteenth century, Henry David Thoreau, an inspirational writer in search of spiritual truth writes about the negative view of the dominant values of America. Thoreau's opinion about human beings is that we are the primary aspect of environmental destruction. America was built so that humans would have a better place to live at the cost of slave labor, war, and political conflict. Thoreau believes government fosters the institution of slavery in human beings, degrading people to the level of property, he calls it. The implications of the rise of industrialism and materialism also contribute to slavery and other inhumane acts. Slavery is a moral issue which he thinks government has no authority to ignore it. Thoreau believes "We must learn to reawaken and keep ourselves awake, not by mechanical aids, but by an infinite expectation of the dawn, which does not forsake us in our soundest sleep" (Heath Thoreau, pg. 770-771). People who pay attention are moral and ethically correct, respond to what is going around you. Thoreau's ambition is only to create and stabilize a better and reconstructed America from what it was back then.
