Biblical References of Solitude!!!

In the novel, One Hundred Years of Solitude, Gabriel Garcia Marquez used the motif of biblical references in order to outline the main theme of solitude in the novel. The characters Jose Arcadio Buendia, Ursula Iguaran, and Melquiades all had been symbolized by some kind of biblical character. These biblical references underline the reasons why it came to the downfall of some characters resembling the downfall of the whole Buendia family and Macondo.
Jose Arcadio Buendia represented God quite temporarily and then came to represent Eve. In the beginning, he had founded Macondo and was its leader, a very good leader that wanted the best for his village, "Jose Arcadio Buendia, who was the most enterprising man ever to be seen in the village, had set up the placement of the houses in such a way that from all of them one could reach the river and draw water with the same effort, and he had like up the streets with suck good sense that no house hot more sun ." (p.9) Then there was Jose's personality. He had a tendency to always want to learn something new. He was curious of everything. Eve was also curious and had a little "quest for knowledge" as she took a bite of an apple off the Tree of Knowledge. Jose Arcadio Buendia's mistake was also his ample curiosity. He has led himself to his own downfall just as Eve had done, also, foreshadowing the downfall of someone or something else.
However, Ursula Iguaran, representing Adam, was a character who had a different kind of downfall. Adam was the one who had tried to do what's right and had stronger qualities such as character. Ursula Iguaran wanted the best for what she had started and not have it come to a downfall. She was there from the beginning. "Active, small, severe, that woman of unbreakable nerves who at no moment in her life had been heard to sing seemed to be everywhere- (p.9) Quite simply, Ursula was like the man. She was the one who had to take charge and run everything after Jose's downfall.
