             Animal research has been the way forward for most of the medical advances of this century. Here is a short list of breakthroughs that were brought about through animal research: .

             Discovery of the HIV virus and development of drugs to control the progression of AIDS; .
             Organ transplantation techniques.
             How are animals exploited for farming?.
             Modern production practices dictate that the vast majority of meat, eggs, and dairy products sold in major grocery chains and restaurants come from animals raised in intensive confinement systems (factory farms) .
             Laying hens are crowded into small wire "battery" cages, sows are continuously crated, and milk-fed veal calves are raised alone in narrow crates.
             Also animals are exploited with the use of antibiotics, hormones, and other drugs used to offset disease-promoting conditions as well as to boost production. All of this is to feed the ever-rising population of this world.
             How else are animals used for the benefit of humans?.
             Clothing.
             Humans kill an untold number of animals to produce items of clothing.
             Cow skins are used for any number of items sold on the market, the most common of which are belts, shoes, handbags, and wallets.
             Silkworms are used to feed the market for silk ties, silk underwear, and silk sheets.
             Fox and mink are also used for coats.
             Reptile skin is also fashioned into handbags shoes and wallets.
