Some people are fair but not honest , some people are honest but not fair. There are an elite group of Americans who are fair and honest. Most of the these people are gone unnoticed and un-represented. The character Atticus Finch represents these fair and honest people.
Atticus was a very fair and honest character and he made several comments in the novel to back this statement up. When he tells his daughter ,the character Scout, "You Miss Scout Finch are of the common folk. You must obey the law"(page 30), he expresses that he does not believe his family or his self is better than anyone in Maycomb. Atticus proves that he is a fair person when he tells Scout, "I don't know of any law that says they can't talk. Maybe if we didn't give them so much to talk about they"d be quiet"(page157).Atticus proves that he is honest when he tells a character in a mob, "That boy might go to the chair, but he's not going until the truth's told and you not what the truth is"(page 146).
Other characters in the story think very highly of Atticus. The character Miss Maudie expresses Atticus is a good person when she says, "but sometimes the bible in the hand of one man is worse than a whiskey bottle in the hand of-oh your father"(page 45). Miss Maudie expresses that Atticus is fair and honest when she says, "We"re so rarely called on to be Christians, but when we are we have people like Atticus to go for us"(page 215). Atticus was a good father and tried to raise his children right the character Jem expressed this by saying, "He told me havin" a gun is like having an invitation to somebody to shoot you"(page 217).
Atticus did a lot of things in the novel to prove that he was a fair, honest, and caring person. He proves that he ie a fair man when he defends Tom Robinson even though he knew that he wouldn't win. When he doesn't say anything to Bob Ewell when Bob spits in his face he shows that he is a very big man.
