Introduction to Grammar and Style

For anybody that needs to express an idea through writing, grammar and style in your piece are almost as important as the actual idea. If you don't apply knowledge of grammar and style in your writing, your idea will not come across clearly to the reader and the central idea may end up being lost. .
There are many resources you can look at to ensure you"re writing at college level and above, both grammatically and stylistically. Two websites in particular will be examined in the following text. .
             Big Dog's Grammar.
This website is very user friendly and walks you through many different aspects of grammar, gives understandable examples, and administers self tests to ensure you are on the right track to grasping specific elements of grammar.
Big Dog's Grammar is very useful for those who have knowledge of basic grammatical rules, but aren't always applying them in their writing. A good example of this is a young college student who was taught the basics in high school, but never took them seriously and has to in college.

When on the Big Dog's Grammar homepage, you will notice a list to the right of the screen. This list includes things like subject, verbs, preposition, fragment, and so on. It ends with the words "self-test" highlighted; this is where you can go to test your knowledge and understanding of each element listed. Although there is a self-test for every link, some are grouped together. For example, at the end of the subject link, it says that the self-test can be administered at the end of the verb section where you take the self-test on subjects and verbs. .
             The Elements of Style.
The first line of text that appears while opening this website makes a great point of why a person would need to use it. "One must know the rules to break them.
