Impulsivity can impair the social interactions of the ADD child. ADD children also have difficulty delaying gratification or impatience. If a child gets it into his mind that he wants something, the can be extremely persistent in pursuing it until they are gratified. Because of this parents may sometimes feel defeated because they have to go through embarrassing moments and horrible tantrums sometimes in public places. Most of the time in these situations, to make the child shut up a parent will immediately give that child what he wants. While doing this the parent is teaching the child that whatever he/she wants he will get and that is not right. The child will not understand the meaning of patience and this skill is needed in every aspect of that child's life. Parents sometimes fail to realize just what they are doing to their children when they make minor mistakes like this. Although they may seem small at the time, they will add up and come back to haunt the parent. The child will become so selfish and willing to do whatever it takes to get what they want if the parent decides to say no. .
             Many children with ADD experience hyperactivity where they are unable to sit still, and calm down. It has been found that girls tend to be less hyperactive in boys though. Boys do move around more than girls. Often the feeling of hyperactivity will diminish by adolescence.
             As children grow they show different characteristics and behaviors so it is only normal for ADD children to show different signs of ADD from infancy to adolescence. In some research it is suggested that some infants can show overly intense emotional reactions, disturbed sleep patterns, and feeding difficulties. Children with ADD show these symptoms in infancy as well as having more frequent allergies. .
             More reliable indicators of ADD are shown when kids become toddlers. Many experts believe that it is possible to determine whether they are ADD by ages two to three.
