Art Therapy

Art therapy is when someone forms a type of artwork, for example: drawings, doodles, a sculpture out of clay, collage, ect. You dont have to be an artist to do/try this. The way you draw and what the types of dimensions, detail you include is how they understand your emotions and feelings. In my case I chose young school age children. I had them draw a person, draw a picture of their family doing something together, and draw a tree, house and a person. Being an art therapist they know the exact things to look for and what the different types of dimensions mean. Art therapy is something you can do and a way someone can understand and express their feelings. A regular therapist will sit down and talk to you and try and help with how they are feeling emotionally. They help treat people with illnesses and disabilities as well. The two types of therapist are different because a regular therapist can see through the way a person speaks when the art therapist can understand through one's drawing.
Working with kids in my daycare I had them do these drawings for me. They were:.
€ A person (which could be anyone).
€ A house, tree, person (which could .
Be any kind, anywhere and anyone).
€ A picture of their family doing .
             something together (which could .
             be anyone, anything).
I then choose two children to evaluate their art. Knowing their lifestyles and how they act since I have interacted with them I was able to look and see if the interpretations were true. The two children I chose are somewhat different. Their lifestyles are very different in some ways. One being foster children while, the other being the "center of attention". Even though one isnt from a broken home you can see through her drawings that she doesnt have all of her boundaries full-filled. Using the person drawing they had some things in common things which were:.
€ Low on the page- feelings of insecurity, low levels of self-esteem, depressive tendencies and defeatist attitudes.
