Brother where art thou

Meanwhile, Ulysses who had been flooded by a dam in the valley where his "treasure" had been kept and floated out into safety a wooden piece of furniture.
Odysseus was traveling with his crew and they were looking for a place to rest and eat. They came upon this island found a cave to rest in. They begin to eat it and then a Cyclops comes in. As the Cyclops attacked Odysseus and his men Odysseus threw a stick at his eyes and blinded him. They escaped, but angered the god of the sea Poseidon, who was the Cyclops father. The scenario similar to when Ulysses meets a man named One-eyed Big Dan who eventually wants to meet for business to sell Bibles. He was a very large guy with a patch on his eyes. They decide to meet on hill where they have a picnic. He beats them up and robs them. Unlike the Cyclops he gets away. This incident put the three fugitives on hold on their journey to find his secret treasure they need to get to before construction begins in the valley where it lays and to his Ulysses" family. The comparison between the Cyclops and (one-eyed jack) is ironic, because both stories deal with an enemy with one eye and a very large body. The two stories tell how savagery can overcome people when they want something. The Cyclops wanted Odysseus and his men for food and One-eyed Big Dan wanted to rob Ulysses and his friends.
Both story lines are influenced by the men's relationships with god's. In O" Brother Where Art Thou? The first religious connection is the Baptist people walking down to the lake and the Lotus Eaters. Both Ulysses and Odysseus meet two different men spiritually divine. Ulysses with his two friends had caught a ride on a hand-pumped railcar that was being operated by a blind prophet. He tells them that they will not find the treasure they are in the journey for. The prophet character in the Odyssey was Teiresias, whom Odysseus asked in the underworld when he needed information on how to get home again.
