Commuting to Work/School during a Hurricane

Commuting to work or school during a hurricane is dangerous becasue of power outages, flooding and dangerous winds. During this type of weather, driving can be extremely risky during a hurricane. The best thing anyone can do is to not commute on the roads during a hurricane.
One reason not to commute during a hurricane is power outages. For example, if streets are not properly lit, with people commuting, vision is impaired and makes it very difficult for driving. In addition, if traffic signal lights go out, that is an accident waiting to happen becasue drivers wouldn't know whether to stop, go or turn. Also, nothing that uses electricity is working, such as gas pumps for example. If you are driving and run out of gas, you can't get any gas becasue the gas pumps aren't working.
There is the likelihood of flooding during a hurricane. Flooding is always a possibility in low-lying areas. Two feet of water will carry away most vehicles. For example, many people think that they can drive right through water with their vehicle, until you find the water picks up the vehicle and then you are floating as if your vehicle was a boat. Avoid driving in areas where water is covering the road. For instance, while your driving, the road could already be washed away under those floodwaters.
Hurricanes produce strong and dngerous winds, sometimes up to 50 miles per hour. Therefore, it would not be wise to be driving under those conditions and you have to go over a bridge. For one thing, if the bridge shuts down becasue of the dangerous winds, you are stuck in your vehicle. Finally, even large trees can be blown down on the road while your driving or even on you while you are in your vehicle.
In conclusion, if you follow these warnings, it is better to safe than sorry and not commute to work or school suring a hurricane because of power outages, flooding and dangerous winds.
