Was the Civil war the 2nd american revolution

When Americans first began to dream of a land where one could live in freedom, away from the reign of Europe, was a glorious time indeed. These dreams were eventually met with reality when Americans banded together and fought for their rights, as citizens of the United States of America. This was the fight that became known as the American Revolution. The old government was overthrown, and our society was inconceivably changed for eternity. While the Civil War was a triumph for American prosperity as well, referring to it as the 2nd American Revolution does not equally fit. The civil war did not change our system of government, or the leaders in charge. Neither changed was, except for the south, were the economics of America. Finally, nor did the civil war have profound impacts socially on the people of the United States of America. Lincoln embarked on a journey to return order to the union, and what turned into a mission to free the slaves. While the Civil War can be characterized with just and noble causes, it is far from the realm in which we call a revolution.
On December 20, 1860 South Carolina became the first state so secede from the union, a promise that the state vowed to keep, shall Lincoln become elected. Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, and Georgia soon followed suit, creating what was to be known as The Confederate States of America. These states all seceded on the basis of States Rights, not simply because of the issues on slavery. Southern Planter Aristocrats were frustrated with how their government was being ran, specifically the recent influx of Northern dominated influence in the House, and the views of President Lincoln. Northern politics forced the South to buy their manufactured goods, which aided the north, but proved to be a detriment to the south. The Southern states felt that their State's rights were not being upheld properly by the constitution, and therefore had grounds to secede from the Union.
