Women's Rights campaigning were a huge part of the reforming era during the antebellum years. Leaders like Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott were motivated by their liberties announced in the constitution that protect and justified their rights and the fact that they were equal to men. (DOC 6). Women inspired by the want of equal rights, attempted many reforms for rights such as fair treatment in family life, suffrage voting rights, and other demands. Many women also had the abolition of slavery in mind as an inspiration to win more rights and be able to petition more for the eradication of slavery. The experience women gained from advocating against slavery taught them that they could do something about their own limited rights, they could organize on their own behalf's. The women organized the Seneca Falls Convention, to demand social, political and economic equality for women. .
Religion was a prime inspiration to remake and reform American society. The Second Great Awakening stimulated this inspiration, women were inspired especially. The inspired of this awakening advocated for many reforms, due to the fact that they believed it was a sin, For example alcoholism. The reformers who were enthused by religion campaigned against alcohol and promoted the temperance movement, which had a strong religious foundation. This movement was very successful, such that some states, like Maine, even banned the sale of alcohol. Other Religion and Second Great Awakening inspired reforms was that of the reforming of institutions if the mentally ill, poor, orphans, or imprisoned. The reformers saw potential to be self-reliant and responsible, and felt this would be so if they were given the proper living conditions and order in their life. Dorothea Dix was a major advocator of these reforms.
