Narcissism

Narcissism is defined as a negative word meaning an excessive and unhealthy love of one's own body or personality. This terminology came from the Greek legend named Narcissus.
             .
Narcissus was a hero that was of lovely youth. His loveliness attracted all the girls. Even though he was a very popular fellow, he did not go for these girls that wished to be his. The most beautiful and ones who tried their hardest to make him look at them did not even phase him. There were many marvelous girls that he turned down. One included Echo, who was the prettiest of the nymphs. Artemis was very fond of Echo, but she was not pleased with Hera, a powerful goddess that was always trying to find out what Zeus was considered as. She presumed that he loved a nymph, so she investigated on which one it was. Without delay she turned aside her spying act when she heard the happy gossip of Echo. As she secretly listened, she found that hearing Echo did not give much information on whom Zeus had fallen in love with. Hera then defied Echo because of the grief she caused to the goddess. Since Hera was now not too fond of Echo, she was penalized. Hera prohibited her to never be able to use her tongue unless she renounced what was foresaid. Hera told her, "You will always have the last word, but no power to speak first". She could keep an eye on Narcissus, but could never talk to him. By this scolding, it sure made it almost impossible for a lad who never laid eyes on a girl to make an observation on her. Then came along an attempt, that she could take part in. He called upon to see if anyone was where he happened to be at the moment, in the woods. So she called back, and he then told her to come out behind the trees. She was very excited to be talking to her love by throwing her arms in front of her. He was not pleased with what he saw so he turned with and appalled attitude. She was very embarrassed at what had just happened so she put herself out of sight and never felt at ease again.
