Punishment

This essay will provide readers with the punishment that will be given to the 17 year old male who was caught stealing merchandise at a department store. He also pointed a gun at store employees and it later turns out that the gun was unloaded! This was a senseless and stupid crime that should have never occurred and unfortunately the young man will have to pay the price of punishment. .
Instead of locking the youth away in jail at one of the most impressionable times of his life, I'm choosing to place this youth for 6 months in a healthy family-style situation -- surrounded by positive role models, common sense and discipline. This alternative punishment program called XYZ Residential Facility, has an innovative treatment approach which will include a focus on education and counseling, complemented with an emphasis on physical fitness and history. This residential program is designed to work with youth who have failed in the community despite the best efforts that their families and other community agencies & programs could provide. I believe that this intensive experience in a supportive environment with adults acting as positive role models are essential for helping males like him in the juvenile justice system to make the changes necessary to become law abiding, successful citizens. The XYZ program is specifically designed to help youths:.
             be in a safe environment.
deal with and overcome the pain and anger they have from their past.
experience success and positive reinforcement from supportive and caring staff over an extended period of time.
learn to trust people with their feelings and thoughts and accept support.
learn to work in a team, accept support other people and exhibit leadership.
recover from mistakes and get back on track with support from staff.
be challenged by a series of new experiences and environments to think and act in new and positive ways.
work hard to achieve significant accomplishments.
