In this paper, I will be informing you about capital punishment and how it is the best way for punishment other than life in prison. The main points of my paper are that capital punishment is justified, less costly than housing an inmate for life that the government and taxpayers have to pay, is humane, and has been proven to have results. I hope that after reading this paper you my audience will have more knowledge towards my beliefs on regarding capital punishment.
Capital punishment; these two words have caused a great deal of controversy in today's society. Despite such controversy there is no doubt that capital punishment is the most efficient way to go. For instance, it rightfully serves justice, because it is more cost efficient than imprisoning an inmate for life and has been proven to lower crime rates in the jurisdictions that use it. Overall, there is no better solution to capital crime, than capital punishment. .
Many people today argue that capital punishment is inhumane. They may be surprised to find that the United States carries out its executions in ways that are actually quite humane. "For example, lethal injection, used by 36 of the 38 states that have the death penalty is quite humane" (Bureau) Unlike any other method, the prisoner dies painlessly and peacefully. It has been said that dying from lethal injection, which takes about two minutes is no different from dying while asleep. With the death sentence, there is no other humane way for it to be carried out.
The argument in favor of capital punishment is based on justice and the nature of a moral community, which requires that each person respect the life and liberty of others. Those who commit vicious crimes destroy the basis on which a moral community rests and forfeit their rights to citizenship and even to life itself. Another argument against capital punishment is based on love and the nature of an ideal community in which forgiveness and the hope for redemption are guiding aims.
