Density lab

Density is a property of a substance and is sometimes used to identify what a substance is. In this experiment we used a scale to find mass and a graduated cylinder to find the volume of the substances, water, rubber stopper, Pepsi and diet Pepsi. Then we used the formula density= mass/volume to find each substances density. This lab shows the use of the density formula and helped improve measuring skills. We also used water displacement to find some volumes. .
             .
             Experimental Procedure.
Upon entering the lab safety goggles and lab apron were put on.
             A: Water.
We first found the mass of a clean dry 100ml graduated cylinder and recorded the result on data table 1. Then the cylinder was filled with exactly 100.0 ml of distilled water. Then the mass of the graduated cylinder was found and recorded. Then the mass density of the water was calculated and recorded.
             B: Rubber Stopper.
First the rubber stopper was put on the scale to get its mass then the mass was recorded. Next we poured 50 ml of tap water into the 100ml-graduated cylinder, read and recorded the volume. Last the rubber stopper was completely submersed in the graduated cylinder. Then the data was read and recorded and the density of the rubber stopper was calculated.
             C: Pepsi non-diet.
To find the density of non-diet Pepsi pour 100ml into a graduated cylinder. Then pour it into a styrophome cup and put the cup on the balance. Next read and record the mass and volume and calculate the density.
             D: Pepsi Diet.
To find the density of a diet Pepsi pour 100ml into a graduated cylinder. Then poured it into a stryophome cup and put it on the balance. Then the mass and volume were recorded and used to calculate the density.
             .
             Data Results.
             Density of water.
Mass of graduated cylinder 42.03 g.
Mass of cylinder and water 140.93 g.
             Mass of water 98.9 g.
             Volume of water 100 ml.
Density of water .989 g ml.
             Density of rubber stopper.
Mass of rubber stopper 8.61 g.
Initial volume of water in cylinder 50 ml.
