Lord Of The Flies

" Jack held up the head and jammed the soft throat down on the pointed stick which peirced through into the mouth," Golding illustrates vividly. Hard to believe from the quote to think that Jack started out to be a civilized boy just like the rest. In the novel, Lord of the Flies, it tells a story where boys were left stranded on a deserted island due to a horrible plane crash. Throughout the novel, time progresses and they try their best to survive and behave but the trouble of being away from civilization was more powerful than the group of boys. Some characters remained who they were, as others turned to the dark side of change. Golding uses Jack's evolving character, from orderly boy to brutal savage to prove that man's character subjects to evil when removed from civilization and not given the amount of power they are in need of. .
When Jack first arrived on the island he seemed to fit in just fine with no hint of savagery in him to unleash. Golding states, "Jack and Ralph smiled at each other with shy liking." This shows who Jack was initially, when first being stranded on the island, seeming to get along with his soon to be rival. .
Golding states, "I ought to be chief.says Jack with simple arrogance, because I am chapter chorister and head boy. I can sing C sharp." From the beginning, Jack's complexed personality seemed to increase into something of greater destruction. Golding seemed to foreshadow the change in him by pointing out from an early start his desire to dominate over humans. Though he had audacity, he did not outlash his desire to become higher. Overtime, Jack progresses to change because he had not gotten the spot of leader. He lacked the strength behind his words to persuade people that he had the ability to leave the people in good hands. "He swung back his right arm and hurled the spear, with all his strength,". Jack tries to kill a pig with his growing war-like instincts, not to provide for the people but more for the want to hunt, showing some form of evil.
