Hate speech

Our right to be a free nation, where we are not prosecuted for our beliefs and what we say. We must also step out of the picture for a moment and ask ourselves if we give them this power to regulate what we say how far will they take this power and where will it end?.
"The most commonly advanced arguments against the regulation of racist speech proceeds something like this: We recognize that minority groups suffer pain and injury and as a result of this racist speech, but we must allow this hate mongering for the benefit of society as a whole. Freedom of speech is the lifeblood of our democratic system. It is especially important for minorities because often it is their only vehicle for rallying support for the redress of their grievances. It will be impossible to formulate a prohibition so precise tat it will prevent the racist speech you want to suppress without changing in the same net all kinds of speech that it would be unconscionable for a democratic society to suppress."" (342, Charles R. Lawrence III) .
The 1st Amendment is another valid category that we must analyze to truly see that it would be impossible to make hate speech legal. The first amendment clearly gives us the right to the freedom of speech and freedom to assemble and protest peacefully. .
One example where the first amendment was shown no respect was the incident at the public college in California. There was a group of students peacefully protesting that had some very politically incorrect images on it. They were forced by the administration to take it down because some students were growing offended. This is a direct violation of the 1st Amendment especially because it is a government funded school meaning they are not allowed to make their own rules and standards. The students did indeed have some radical images and derogatory messages but it wasn't inciting violence and should not have been taken down.
