             General Purpose: To inform my audience about cigarettes.
             Specific Purpose: To tell my audience about some of the many facts about cigarettes that we may not have previously been aware of.
             Central Idea: Every year four million people die worldwide from smoking related diseases. In a single day 1200 Americans will die and world wide someone is dying every eight seconds because of tobacco related diseases.
             INTRODUCTION.
             I. Attention Material.
             A. Every cigarette you smoke cuts five minutes of your life on average.
             .
             II. Orienting Material.
             A. I checked several different websites for information and they all have the same information that's been out there for quite sometime but most people just disregard it.
             .
             (Transition: More than 4000 harmful chemicals have been found in tobacco smoke and these companies are not even required to list the ingredients on the packaging.).
             BODY.
             I. In 1989, millions of cases of imported fruit was banned after a small amount of cyanide was found in 2 grapes. In case you don't know that is a chemical used in rat poison and one cigarette has 33 times more cyanide than those two grapes. Another mishap like this was in 1990 when 72 million bottles of water were voluntarily recalled because traces of benzene, which is used as a solvent in fuel, was found in the water. Again, smoke from one pack of unfiltered cigarettes has as much benzene as 169 bottles of this contaminated water.
             A. A few other chemicals are listed: .
             B. Formaldehyde: embalming fluid.
             C. Amonia: toilet cleaner.
             D. Acetone: nail polish remover.
             E. Tar: If you smoke 20 cigarettes a day its equivalent to full cup of tar a year .
             F. Hydrogen Cyanide: gas chamber poison and was also reportedly used against the Kurdish people in the 1980's war between Iran and Iraq as a chemical agent.
             (Transition: ) Half of long-term smokers will die from cigarette related diseases even though it is the single most preventable cause of disease.
