Scarlett Letter

One of the characters that is involved in this scaffold scene is Dimmesdale. The reason why Dimmesdale went to the scaffold was to go and confess his sin. Dimmesdale is full of guilt during this scene. He has committed this sin with Hester. While Dimmesdale wants to go and confess his sin, Chillingworth, who is trying to get at the truth of the sin for himself, doesn't want Dimmesdale to go and confess. As Hester has the scarlet letter on her bosom, Dimmesdale's holds his heart like a scarlet letter burns in secret there. Hester and Pearl are a couple more of the characters that are involved in this scene. While Dimmesdale was on the scaffold, he asks that Hester and Pearl go and join him on the scaffold. Hester and Pearl go up on the scaffold and they all join hands forming an electric train with Pearl acting as the bond. Pearl then asks Dimmesdale if he will stand with them on the scaffold tomorrow at noon. Dimmesdale replies that he will not stand with them on the scaffold tomorrow at noon but he will stand with them on the scaffold on Judgment Day. Pearl and Dimmesdale notice Chillingworth staring at Dimmesdale and she points at him. Another character in this scene is Chillingworth As a meteor streaked across the sky a new expression occurs on Chillingworth's face. This could also be that he was not careful to hide his malevolence on his prey, Dimmesdale. Chillingworth is trying to get Dimmesdale off of the scaffold and to go home with him. Chillingworth does this so he does not loose his prey. Dimmesdale agrees to go with Chillingworth home. .
             In this scene a comet streaks across the sky. When it streaks across the sky it leaves the people to believe that it is a red "A". Dimmesdale sees the "A" in the sky and he interprets it as standing for adultery (the scarlet letter.) The other people who see the "A" in the sky interpret it differently then Dimmesdale interprets it. They interpret it as a sign of their governor who has just passed the past night.
