Capital Punishment is necessary in a democracy. The death penalty will always deter those who are executed. It is certainly not less important to the families of people murdered by those who have murdered before and who have been turned loose by judges or parole boards, or allowed weekend furlongs by progressive prison authorities. .
Most people in the United States think Capital Punishment is necessary in a democracy. 73.4 percent of respondents nationwide favored the death for persons convicted of murder. Currently 38 states have the death penalty and 75.5 percent of the people want to always use the death penalty. It would be better to kill the person convicted of murder instead of keeping him in prison for life.
The death penalty deters crime. Prisoners who murder someone in prison don't get the death penalty, they just sat in prison longer. If a murderer is convicted guilty of a murder, he or she should receive the death penalty. There said not be life in prison or 30 years in prison and then set free. We would no longer have to worry about murderers committing further crimes, plus society would not have to face the moral quandaries that occur when it kills a killer.
Society should not spend money for convicted murderers. Some people feel the death penalty should be the verdict for someone who commits murder instead of having the tax payers pay for a life long sentence. Sometimes the tax payer will pay for a convict that is given a life long sentence and then set free after 30 plus years. Sometimes commit another murder again. Some states are now passing a law that permits juries to give a life sentence without the possibly of parole.
Whether the death penalty deters that one specific criminal or a host of others doesn't matter. What matters is that life will be squared and that is reason enough to keep the death penalty. That is why I believe that Capital Punishment is necessary in a democracy.
