Yes, tolerance is necessary in democracy. Tolerance is necessary because people unselfconsciously can choose who and what they want to be. With tolerance, the government can provide citizens with an easier life without discrimination. And tolerance is needed so that people will put up with and follow government laws and regulations. .
If you want to be Christian, you can; if you want to be homosexual, you can. Nothing is holding you back in life today from being what you want. Within the law it is virtually an open society. And with people being these so called controversial things people do not approve of people still remain tolerant so people can live freely and happily with out the worry of discrimination.
There are many religions, cultures, races, and different sexual preferences. There are a lot more than there has ever been and with this great number of differences there has to be a certain balance. Even though there is a certain level of tolerance, there still are people who do not hold back any of their thoughts; racist, sexually, culturally, and or religiously insulting opinions. But with the government trying to enforce this greatly diverse society, some people question if that is against our individual rights to tell us if something is right or wrong. It may be wrong telling us what to do but for us to be tolerant, they must. Tolerance is needed for everything to move and flow smoothly.
With the government taxing everything and enforcing laws that in my opinion are not very fair, we need to be tolerant to a degree. With such laws as zoning and not allowing citizens to have their full rights we still need to be tolerant. But as apart of living in a society, I've been told that to get certain things we have to give some freedoms up, and even though I don't totally agree with this. We must abide by what laws and regulations in place.
Tolerance is not only necessary in the government but also within society and the people that live in it.
