Group Vs Lone Study

            Since universities were founded, it has been obvious that the majority of the learning is independent. This can involve more than one way of learning, whether it is listening and writing down notes from lectures, researching given topics or writing essays. However, this is not the only way to successfully learn. Learning in groups can provide people with transferable skills such as teamwork that would normally have been ignored in traditional ways of teaching in higher education.
             Independent learning can be taken as learning, not depending on the opinions and ideas of other people, in other words, learning that is "self-governed". This would generally be the most accepted method of learning in further education although the focus is moving into accepting group learning as an equally valid way to learn. Independent learning does improve various skills that are valued in the work place. It teaches people to use their initiative. If a single person has to do the research, then this reliance on themselves usually proves a good motive to do the work, as they are not relying on other people to do the work for them. Learning this way also means that there are less distractions and therefore people can work better by learning on their own. .
             Independent learning helps develop organisational skills. Someone learning on their own has to learn to manage their time and organise themselves to enable themselves to successfully meet deadlines and do enough work to enable them to meet their full potential. Without making use of these skills, then it likely that failure in certain tasks would be inevitable and possibly leading to expulsion from a course, even for an exceptionally able student. .
             When people leave university, it is automatically accepted that the graduates will either more on to more advanced education or will get jobs. The job market is competitive and employers are looking for more substantial and useful skills than merely a degree, so that the people they employ will be as flexible as possible.
