             All unions are financed and consequently formed by their members. The members appoint the officials who run the unions and the unions are dependent on its members, the employees, and are independent from the employers. .
             Trade unions act in looking after their members" interests. Some of there major tasks are:.
             To protect members wages particularly in the time of recession.
             To negotiate the working hours wanted by an employer.
             To monitor the health and safety conditions of a work place.
             To negotiate the working conditions .
             To provide many different benefits for its members such as pensions, sick pay, unemployment pay, injury benefits and strike pay.
             To represent members interests when in conflict or dispute with their employer.
             The also deal with political duties relating to the government. The unions will actively negotiate with the opposing parties and the government to help the case of the member. Any and all employees of a business have the right to join a trade union and use all the benefits it has to offer. The unions both protect the member and offer them a range of facilities.
             STAFF ASSOCIATIONS.
             In many business organisations staff associations have replaced trade unions or are the only option to the employees. Staff associations have some special features such as:.
             They are designed by the employer. .
             They are funded for by the employer. .
             They are run on behalf of the employees by the employers.
             They are not based on the same roles and objectives as trade unions.
             They encourage a no strike policy.
             They offer the same facilities as trade unions.
             They are not linked nationally but are separate organisations.
