Are We Safe in America?

Are we, the people of the United States, safe in our own country? Can we live our lives without fear and trepidation? Why is America a target for acts of terrorism? These are questions that people from all across America have been asking themselves lately. Everyone was shocked and even traumatized by the events that occurred on September 11, 2001. The way of life for American citizens has significantly changed in the weeks following this tragedy. We have freely given up some of our own freedoms to allow the war on terrorism to be a much easier task. We are willing to give up some of our privacy in order to live in a safe environment. Some examples of these freedoms and privacy issues are random searches, x-rays, wiretaps, and even the monitoring of email. The reason the U.S. has been the target of these vicious attacks is due to the freedoms and the liberties our country provides for us. Terrorists envy the United States for being such a powerful country, and they try to hurt and dishearten us in any way possible. These people are cowards and they should be severely punished for their actions. .
Is the United States the sole superpower of the world? Do we have the largest military? In order to answer these questions, we must first be able to calculate the size and power of a country's military. It takes more than numbers to make a powerful military; extensive training, experienced leadership, and quality personnel are in many ways just as important as ships and tanks. An example of this was shown in the Persian Gulf War. Iraq had 400,000 more troops than the U.S. and its allies had (in the region). Iraq also had about 3,000 more tanks than the U.S. and its allies. Even though Iraq outnumbered the U.S. and its allies, we still had a straightforward and mostly effortless victory. This victory came due to the help of superior technology and strategy. Our military had smart bombs, satellites, and unmanned vehicles in the war.
