Kennedy and the Cuban Missle Crisis

Kennedy and the Cuban Missile crisis.
The Cuban missile crisis was an event that could have changed America is so many ways. It was a time that questioned the United States with what ifs. What if Kennedy did not decide to quarantine Cuba but rather order for an air attack? What if Khrushchev did come to terms with President Kennedy? These were questions that most Americans inflated in their minds during this crisis. The result of these missiles in Cuba could have possibly started WWIII. During the six day strategy game, the united states held her breathe waiting to see what the conclusion would bring. It was more of a chess game between two powerful leaders waiting to see who will blink first. But finally on the sixth day Kennedy was able to compromise with Khrushchev with returning the nuclear weapons.
I believe Kennedy made the right decisions with this matter. In Theodore C. Sorensen's article he expresses his thoughts about how Kennedy did indeed make the correct choices. One thing that I found particularly interesting was when Sorensen writes about how the balance of power would soon change if these missiles were not removed. I believe that Khrushchev ordered the nuclear missiles into Cuba because he felt a weakness on his country when it came to power. He wanted to balance out the powers between his country and the United States. He saw it as a threat because the U.S. had military forces located in several countries that overpowered his country and others that dared to strike against the United States. On the other hand, Fidel Castro was willing to allow nuclear weapons to be planted on his countries soil in order to be prepared incase of an American invasion. With nuclear weapons in Cuba, it was clearly a threat to the United States. President Kennedy was determined to so something without causing any aftermath destruction. It is only common sense to do something about it.
