The stimulus given was Bonfire Night. This was brainstormed as a class and many ideas came up. These included; fireworks, cold, field, explosions, gunpowder plot, Guy Fawkes, noise, danger and excitement. These were discussed and we started to put some ideas into action. .
The first idea was for everyone to stand in two queues waiting for some sort of nourishment to pass the time before the fireworks were to start. This was effective as it allowed us to add the music element into the piece. This was done by having five or six different ostinati, played by parts of the body for example tapping feet and clapping hands. These were repeated rhythmical figures which, when played against each other in certain sequences, complemented each other. This built up to quite an effective and deep rhythmical pattern which after its climax had angry voices over the top in order of the front of the queue shouting things like "Do move along!" and "How much?!".
The second idea was for everyone to make up a dance that lasted 24 beats (three times eight). These were performed simultaneously with people learning each others dances; the result being everyone performing eight dances in unison. The dances were themed around the idea of boredom and waiting for the fireworks to start. The dances included mostly slow movement such as leaning on a partner, falling down, tapping feet and turning. .
This was eventually developed by two pianists and a person on glockenspiel by composing a lullaby type melody to add texture and exaggerate the feeling of boredom and dreaminess. .
