In the 21st century teenagers, find themselves in the hardest time of their lives having to put up with the stresses high in magnitude in which we have never experienced before.
Who is creating these pressures? Is society to blame? Well, we are all to blame, there are so many pressures that combine and create a major problem for today's youth.

Parents want their child to do their best, but the parents pressure their kids to be the best. Year 12 is the hardest part of their life especially if they are aiming to qualify for university. The competition is enormous and it is essential to perform at the end of year exams.
Peers are a dominant force in what important decisions an adolescent may make. Generally, there is a dominant figure in the group of friends. He/she can manipulate these people, and can sometimes forcefully make their peer make a stupid decision causing mental devastation. The teenager must make a crucial choice, eg. Either studying at home or going out having a good time.
Many young adults indulge their time into work. Recent studies shows students working 15 hours a week having devastating effects on school work. This survey states students should not work more than 10 hours but with all the accessories they need such as a mobile phone and clothing, they have to work.
Sport and volunteer work are two factors that are important to society, for welfare and health but some teenagers put to much time into these sectors placing academic pressures on them to succeed.
When teenagers succumb to the pressures they may runaway, become drug and alcohol addicts. Some turn to prostitution to pay for drugs. However, some take the avenue of suicide. Are we as society doing anything to stop it? I think the government have to create school programmes and educate our youth, as these are tragic circumstances.
