Modernism


             Are we headed towards the perfect Utopian global society? Is civilization at a stand still? When will total progress be achieved? These are but some of the concerns argued by the top intellectuals and thinkers of our day. History has proven to us that humankind is evolutionary. I say that in the context of our existence within civilization and the human aspect within society. The agrarian age or what sociologists call pre-industrial society consisted mainly of the large extended family. They shared very strong religious, cultural and economic bonds that ensured their survival. Each family member had duties that included farming and nursing that also kept the family unit functional. .
             With the advent of technology, simultaneously brings changes within the core structure of an economy. Without a doubt, life in the United States will change in the next ten years. However, in order to correctly determine the extent of lifestyles in the future, we have to properly asses the vehicle that will take us there and the inspirations, incentives as well as the important factors that will be needed for survival. Capitalists advocate the individual achievement and rewards based on such, as the inspiration and moreover, the motivation to achieve increased social status hence maintaining modernism (creating higher levels of technology). Critics argue that Capitalism still does not address the critical dilemmas facing the world today. Poverty being the highest and most pronounced dilemma is responsible for the high unemployment as well as the mass illiteracy of a large majority of the world's population. They go on to say that Capitalism fuels the self-centeredness and greed of the ones who own a majority of the world's wealth.
             The internet has introduced great advancement in communication and learning. More importantly, it has almost virtually broken down the cultural barriers that existed even as recent as fifty years ago.
