Overview of President Bush

Having a deficit once in a few years is something that can be overcome and dealt with quite easily, but a continuous deficit will cause many problems. Investment, an important part of economic growth is hurt by consistent deficits as funds will be used to pay for the debt rather than for private investment (Schifferes). If companies spend less for plants and equipment, our current economic growth will be stalled along with the firm's incapacity to expand (Feldstein). When money is owed to others, taxes will soon have to be raised in the future to compensate for the large amounts of money borrowed. This will be difficult to do as President Bush is persistent on keeping his tax cuts active and permanent. With a larger national debt, we will have to part more interest on all the money we owe to corporations and countries. This is estimated to increase $5.3 trillion over the next 10 years (Rivlin "Executive").
The biggest problem with continual deficits is that foreign investors will lose confidence in our economy. This will cause them to invest less money into our economy, as they believe that we are irresponsible in fiscal policies. Eventually less foreign investment in our economy will lead to a weakening dollar. Soon prices of goods will rise due to of the higher cost of importing goods (Rivlin "Executive"). Future policies should consider reducing the deficit of our nation buy either cutting spending or increasing taxes while insuring economic growth.
This overwhelming task has been thought about by members of the Council of Economic Advisers and have come up with the following policies. These plans have taken into account that the proposed budget by President Bush will increase the deficit and the council is trying to find ways to lower it, in order to prevent from any of the fore mentioned hazards from occurring. It is equally important to have sustained growth and to balance the budget to insure a safe and prosperous future.
