Ever since man has existed, there have been issues of class. From those who think they are superior to those who lives on the street. These classes also depict how man treats one another. Persons in the top class, usually rich tend to pick on lower class citizens. One thing these people don't realize is that in the scheme of thing everyone is equal in the end.
Class in society affect all person in one way or another. These classes affect how much tax people pay, help the government give you, even defines what your expected to do with your life. It seems that there are three types of classes, rich, middle, and poor. .
The story show three types of class, the "officer in a military overcoat", to "Iona Potapov, the sledgedriver, is all white like a ghost", and the three drunk men. From the start there are signs that one class seems to be better. The officer is Iona first customer, from the start Iona is treated with no respect. His driving is mocked and he is insulted. At one point the officer seems to take concern in Iona's troubles, but only for a split second then goes back to yelling at him. The officer feels power over Iona, beside he's a military officer and Iona is an old sledge driver. This difference in class gives no right to treat people with less respect. .
Iona later picks up the three drunk men, and is treated even worse. The men hit Iona for not driving the way they want him to. Iona starts to talk about the tragic dead of his son and how the was no need for it. Iona feels a bit of comfort being able to get this grief off his chest. As the pain of losing his son starts to fade a little it come back in a sharp blow when the hunchback remarks "We shall all die".
Canadians are known as nice loving people who never discriminate against anyone. As a society we have done some very bad things to our lower class citizens. Not to say that they're lower class people, that's just where they are financially.
