Unlike most African American children of the time Lorraine was the fourth, and youngest child born into a prominent African American family. Her parents Carl and Nannie Perry Hansberry were very involved in national black cultural, an political circles. The fact that her parents were so involved in the world enabled Lorraine to meet many influential African American's when she was younger. One of these people is "Richard Wright" the author of "Native Son". In fact " A Raisin in the sun", and "Native Son" start off the same way with an alarm clock ringing.
