Marty Lahart, an Irish sports and fitness person, Sam Seager, who had once been a Sing Sing death row guard, Barney Cloonan, a giant muscular, black-haired Irishman, Lyle Chapman, a problem solver and investigator who was a University football player, Tom Friel, a former state trooper from Pennsylvania, Joe Leeson, a genius when it came to tailing someone in an automobile, Paul Robsky, a short, ordinary-looking man, who knew everything there is to know about telephones, Mike King,who was good at taking in and analyzing facts, Bill Gardner, Native American and a former professional football player
The Untouchables first raid was a success. They took out 18 of the biggest stills (saloons where bootlegged alcohol was being sold) on the same night. It was a well planed assault which took place late at night. It resulted in 18 stills being shut down and 52 people jailed. With the success of their first mission, the team set their eyes on the big money, Capone's major operation, the breweries. Ness and his team went after one of Capone's major breweries, the confiscated 1500 gallon vats, 140 barrels of beer and couple of trucks worth $ 70 000, this was a major blow to Capone's business. The only down side was that everyone who worked their escaped through an escape route when the mission was taking place.
Ness and his team of Untouchables carried out many missions. They confiscated expensive equipment, trucks, loads of illegal alcohol and many top gangsters including Frank Conta, Capone's friend, and Steve Svododa, Capone's top brewer. Over couple of months the untouchables had closed down up to 19 distilleries and key breweries worth up to $ 1 ,000,000. At first Capone thought it was a bad idea to kill the members of the Ness because it would bring him unwanted trouble, so he tried to bribe the members of the team. This back fired on Capone, because the team refused Capone's bribes and released the news to the press saying they can't be bought off by anyone, hence the name "untouchables" was born.
