The Truth About Sexual Assault

Sexual assault is simply another word for rape. It means that someone was forced to have sex or perform sexual acts in which they did not want commit. It could have been done by someone that they knew or by a stranger. One researcher found that in more than 40 percent of rape cases, the victim identified her husband or friend as her attacker. Another study found that 84 percent knew the attacker. In most cases, it happens to women, but it can also happen to men and to children. People tend to think that rape is something that happens because of the victim, but in most cases that is not true. Rapes usually happen from people who are very aggressive and sexually agitated. On contrary to what people believe, rape doesn't usually happen in a dark ally or a secluded parking lot. As a matter of fact, rapes usually happen at a place where the attacker would meet the victim. More than 72% of the time, the act of rape is performed in either the victim's or the attacker's home. .
Statistics show that one out of four women has been sexually molested some time during the course of their life. Statistics also show that only one out of eight women reports these incidents. A survey shows that the mostly used reason of not reporting a rape is because the victim was too embarrassed and did not expect any consequences. There are reasons why one should report being raped immediately after the incident. First of all, anything that a victim was forced to do against his or her will have a high chance of resulting in some sort of serious problem if it is not found as soon as possible. If reported to the police, any evidence, including body fluids, will be used against the victim. For this reason, before reporting the rape, you should not change clothes, shower, wash anything off, or do anything that may alter the evidence on you or your attire.
Most importantly of all, you run the risk of getting STDs (Sexually Transmitted Diseases) and/or getting pregnant.
