The Roman Catholic Church is known to society as a well-respected religion, followed by millions all over the world. This, as we are well aware, comes along with the knowledge that the Roman Catholic priest cannot be sexually active during priesthood. Just last year, an ordinary priest was accused of sexually assaulting a young boy in 1991. John Geoghan was charged with assaulting a ten-year-old boy when he was swimming with the victim in a pool. Geoghan stuck his hand down the boys pants, and grabbed his buttocks. John Geoghan was sentenced to jail time, which would ultimately lead to his murder inside the walls of his penitentiary. Yet, I"m writing to you fellow Roman Catholics to solve this problem that is tainting the reputation of the Roman Catholic Church. .
Also, just as bizarre as a priest not being able to have sex, priests are also not allowed to get married. This to most people seems like another frail way to keep a priest "clean," while in priesthood. Just last month, and priest in my hometown of West Hartford, Connecticut, was written about in the newspaper. He claims that he found a woman that he would like to spend the rest of his life with, along with the support of his almighty God. He then tells the public that he is taking himself out of the clergy to pursue a new life with his partner. Why does this man have to take himself out of priesthood in order to marry a woman? .
Furthermore, this is not the only case of sexual assault that has been recognized by the media. The public has patronized other priests in other parts of the country after young men are now coming out and speaking to the public about their experiences with a priest. With this in mind, we the public, and the followers of the Roman Catholic Church need to figure out a way that we can solve this, and stop it in its tracks. .
For a Catholicism follower, the priest that you listen to and look up to should be as well trusted as anyone in their family.
