Martin Luther

Martin Luther: The Great Reformer, by J. Morrison, is a biography about the great reformer, Martin Luther. This book takes you all of the way through his life on earth, which began in 1483 and ended in 1546. The book takes a close look at his very significant life and his stand against injustice in the Roman Catholic Church of his day.
Martin Luther was born November 10, 1483 to Hans and Margaret Luther in the town of Eisleben in Germany. They had no idea that their little boy would change the world. Martin's father, Hans, was a copper miner. While Martin's father worked, his mother took care of him and the other 4 children in his family. Even though his family was poor at this time, they were very rich in Christian values, which would always be at the heart of Martin Luther. .
Martin's father wanted his Children to have a good education, especially Martin because he was the oldest son. He sent Martin to the very strict and unforgiving local school when he was very young. He hated it there but suffered through for his parents sake. His mother and father planned on him becoming a lawyer and demanded that he have an education one way or another. While he was at this school he learned Latin, a tool which would be very valuable for him later on as a member of church clergy. Luther graduated from this school and at age 13 set out to further his education in the city of Magdeburg away from his family. After a year of study there, he moved to Eisenach where he had planned on staying with a relative. This relative did not let him stay with them so Martin begged for a while in order to survive. A woman named Ursula Cotta and her husband, Conrad, took Luther in and fed and clothed him. He stayed with these wealthy people the whole time he was in Eisenach. After this he thanked them heartily and went on to further his education in Erfurt.
In 1501 Luther enrolled at the great University of Erfurt.
